- How are you? Grand.
- I don't mind. Grand.
You can just say grand all the time! After a comment or when someone asks you a question.
But everyone is very nice. I went to work at a compost and biogas plant. People gave me a tour around the place and explained what they do and how things work. All the waste was very smelly. I talked to almost all employees and they said that my English was really good. One person said that my English was better than his. This made me less insecure.
The family I'm staying at asked me to play a card game with them called 'Switch'. When they tried to explain it to me, I said that we have the same game in the Netherlands but then it is called 'Pesten' which means 'to bully'. Only all the rules are the other way around. The rules for 7 count for 8 and 8 for 7.
The children in Ireland learn Irish and English. But when I asked how often they speak Irish, they said that they never spoke it. Just like Latin I think. But the signs on the road, you can read the names in English and in Irish.
I thought that Ireland would be the same as the Netherlands, but it is not. Only the weather. I'm very lucky: it will be dry all week. The weird thing is: it is 10°C and it's okay to go out without a jacket!
In the evening, I went to a hurling match, which is their national sport. It is a cool sport but they wear helmets. It looks funny.
I have come to a point that I am thinking in English. Is that weird?
